Agreeing to these terms

ritu is a hyperlocal weather service for India, owned and operated by Ritu.ai Pvt Ltd (“ritu”), with its registered office at Plot No. 185, 7th Cross Street, M.K.B. Nagar, Vyasarpadi, Chennai 600039, Tamil Nadu, India. These terms cover the ritu website (ritu.ai) and the ritu mobile apps for Android and iOS (together, the “service”).

When you use the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Who can use ritu

ritu is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use the service. If you are under 18, please do not use ritu or send ritu any information.

What ritu provides

ritu shows weather data for places in India. Some of this data comes from ritu’s own Lily weather stations, and some comes from other weather sources. ritu marks the source of every reading so you can see where it came from. ritu also lets you ask for a station in your area, and lets station owners sign in on the website to manage their station.

Where the weather data comes from

Today, ritu uses readings from its own Lily stations and from OpenWeatherMap. Over time, ritu may add more weather sources to make its data better. These may include:

• the India Meteorological Department (IMD), including radar,
• the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),
• WeatherUnion, and
• weather satellites operated by ISRO and other agencies, such as INSAT, Himawari, and Meteosat.

Whatever the source, ritu shows it on the reading. A reading from ritu’s own station is marked as such, and a reading from another source is marked too, so you always know where a number came from.

Weather data is for information only

ritu works hard to give accurate readings, but weather data can never be perfect. Use ritu’s readings as helpful information, not as a guarantee. Do not rely on ritu alone for decisions where a wrong reading could cause harm or loss, such as flight, marine, or emergency decisions. For official warnings, follow the India Meteorological Department and your local authorities.

Your account

If you sign in on the ritu website to manage or sponsor a station, you are responsible for keeping your account safe. Do not share your sign-in with anyone. Tell ritu immediately if you think someone else has used your account. The mobile app does not need an account.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications in the app, ritu sends weather alerts to your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Using ritu fairly

When you use ritu, you agree not to:

• break any law, or use the service to harm others,
• try to break into, overload, or damage the service or its servers,
• copy or collect data from the service in bulk without ritu’s written permission, and
• pretend to be someone else, or give false information.

Ads in the app

The ritu app may show ads. How ads and analytics work, and what data they use, is explained in the privacy policy.

Buying and sponsoring stations

ritu lets you ask to buy a station for your own place, or sponsor a station for a town or village. The full terms for buying or sponsoring, including price, delivery, and refunds, will be shown to you before you pay, in a separate agreement for that purchase. Those terms apply together with these terms.

Who owns the weather data

When you buy a station, you own the station hardware. The weather data the station measures is different: that data, and all rights in it, belong to ritu. The same is true for a station you sponsor. You support the station; ritu owns the readings it produces.

ritu can store, publish, share, and use this weather data, including for business purposes such as offering or selling weather data services. This is part of how ritu pays to build and run the network. Each station’s readings also appear on ritu’s public pages, with the name of the person who bought or sponsored it, as described on the buy and sponsor pages.

This section is about weather measurements, not your personal information. How ritu handles your personal data is explained in the privacy policy. The agreement you accept when you buy or sponsor a station will say the same thing about who owns the data.

Who owns the content

The ritu name, logo, design, text, and software belong to ritu. You may use the service for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, change, or reuse ritu’s content for your own service without ritu’s written permission.

Your privacy

How ritu collects and uses your data is explained in the privacy policy. By using the service, you also agree to that policy.

ritu’s responsibility

ritu provides the service “as it is”. As far as the law allows, ritu is not responsible for any loss that results from using, or not being able to use, the service or its weather data. Nothing in these terms removes any right you have that the law does not allow to be removed.

Changes to ritu and these terms

ritu may change, pause, or stop any part of the service at any time. ritu may also update these terms. When it does, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the new terms.

Which law applies

These terms follow the laws of India. The courts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu have authority over any dispute about them.
