I started ritu for my father’s farm.

In 2022, my father had a mustard crop ready to cut. That night it rained, and we lost most of the crop. No app warned us. This happens almost every season.

My uncles face the same with their shrimp ponds: sudden rain changes the water, and the shrimp fall sick.

My father checked 5 apps every day. None were right for our town, and they were most wrong about rain.

The first station

So I bought a professional weather station from the US and set it up on our land. Our forecasts got better at once.

But imported stations are costly, and they do not work on India’s radio frequencies. Nothing affordable was built for India, so I built it myself.

Proof, not a hunch

I set up calibrated stations in Kandukur, Giddalur, and Markapur and checked them against the apps and government data. They were often wrong, most of all about rain.

I tested ritu’s own stations too. Their readings are 98% the same as a professional Davis station, the industry standard.

Why me

I am an electrical and computer engineer. Before ritu, I built Kulfy, an Indian GIF platform where people shared billions of clips; Google licensed our content for its mobile keyboard. ritu is my sixth product. I work as a software engineer in the US, and I fund ritu myself, because this problem is personal.

Where this is going

Our first proprietary stations, called Lily, are live in Andhra Pradesh, and more are going up. The goal is a weather network for all of India: a professional station near every town, giving accurate local weather to everyone.
